Warwick Taxpayer Gives Reasons Why Warwick Residents Should Be Exempt From Paying City Beach Access Fees
The information/photos below were emailed to Warwick Watch as well as to the entire Warwick City Council by an Oakland Beach resident. This Warwick taxpayer is upset with the new city ordinance that will require (starting next summer) Warwick residents to pay a fee in order to access any of our city beaches.
What do you think? Do you agree or disagree with the sentiments shared below?
"Attached are photos I took at Oakland Beach on the morning after the City of Warwick’s National Night Out Event of August 2, 2017. This event is organized by Councilwoman Travis, for the City Police Dept., yearly I believe. A few weeks later, the Mayor, and Council, then pass an ordinance charging a fee next year, to enter the beach area. The Mayor explains to the press, and public, that it is because of the filthy conditions left at the beach by visitors. We all know his reasoning was BS. It is just another way to get revenue to make up for lost car taxes next year, and/or other losses? The Mayor was aware of these conditions, left by the City itself, because I personally sent pictures to him in a TEXT Message at approx. 7:30 am, on that date. Why no mention of the City mess that was left, by an elected scumbag, and City workers?
The City, its employees, and elected representatives are supposed to LEAD BY EXAMPLE, not by the old DO AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO, philosophy. This requires LEADERSHIP, which apparently doesn’t exist in the current administration, or with the member of the current Council that was in charge, and responsible for leaving this mess. Every City sponsored event in the Oakland Beach area, ALWAYS leaves this type of a disgusting mess. It is no wonder why visitors see this, and figure they can leave a mess also. What ever happened to enforcement? A few bike/foot patrols in the beach areas (Community Policing ??), and the issuance of littering fines will quickly spread by word of mouth, and help alleviate, if not solve the problem.
I have been a Warwick, and Oakland Beach, resident for over 34 years. I pay WAY TOO MANY TAXES AND FEES ALREADY, which already includes CLEANING THE BEACH AREAS. I refuse to pay another fee for cleaning up, because of this. I don’t use the beach area, and usually just sit to read a paper. I take with me what I brought, and usually pick up/dispose of things I didn’t bring while there.
This City Council needs to amend this ordinance, before it takes effect next year, to exclude fees to Warwick homeowners, who pay too much already.
Please specifically note the photos of the City employee/garbage truck that goes through the beach every weekday to empty the trash barrels. This was the funniest, most disgusting thing of all.
*** (I know, you think he is going to get a pickup stick or gloves, something to pick up the trash on the ground ……. But wait ….. NOT …..) ***
It reminded me of that weightlifting commercial ……. I PICK IT UP, AND PUT IT DOWN………. DUH !!!!!
If it wasn’t so sad, it would have been hilarious. This Union City Employee’s instructions/work requirements must say …… EMPTY THE BARRELS ……. So, he does nothing else. LMFAO.
Please let me know if I can be of any help FIXING this ordinance AGAINST the Warwick OVER-TAXED Homeowners.
Remember what you all said repeatedly at meetings, that this was going to be the “year for the taxpayer”, and then you pass this nonsense against us. Charge NON-residents, or NON-HOMEOWNERS, not Warwick taxpayers that already pay WAY TOO MUCH."
