This new firefighter contract is not taxpayer friendly!
Mayor Solomon touts that it's a whopping $2 million dollar plus savings over 2 years but this is erroneous. The Mayor bases this on the assumption that an arbitrator would probably grant the firefighters a 2.75% salary increase per year over the next 2 years. The reason for this is, the Municipal & Police just received that in June of this year. What the Mayor didn't tell you is, he didn't have to sign the new Municipal & Police contracts that the former Avedisian administration negotiated.
The only reason Mayor Solomon signed them is because he wanted to solidify his Mayoral election this past November. So it's disingenuous to say he had to give the firefighters the same because the entire premise is wrong to begin with. There should be NO RAISES AT ALL FOR ALL THREE bargaining units considering the fiscal tsunami the City is currently facing, as outlined by Mayor Solomon's state of the city address he presented this past February.
Mayor Solomon just gave Scott Avedisian a pat on the back by signing these contracts.
The firefighters have been rewarded for their side deal shenanigans and Mayor Solomon caved.
Where is the agreement for the WFD to pay back what they stole from the taxpayers when they were illegally pilfering money with unused sick pay?
Is Mayor Solomon going to present a fiscal note to the City Council and taxpayers informing us as to how much the 45 firemen who should have been on the Tier 2 system back in 2012, is going to cost us when they retire? THIS is going to cost the taxpayers MILLIONS! There are no savings here.
This is all a farce--- SMOKE & MIRRORS!!!
Notice! None of these were addressed in this contract gift: pension and unused sick time reform, eliminating firefighter clothing allowance & lifetime healthcare, prescription drug caps (costing the City millions every year), higher copays for health insurance on a yearly basis, and controlling the ever problematic WFD OT ????
This is all a JOKE and nothing more than Avedisian part 2 !
The structural problems that Mayor Solomon promised he would address are completely missing with this new contract deal.
