From RI Right To Life:
"Even as House defections mount (8 thus far, though none yet among the 6 Providence College graduates, see last paragraph) 2017 - S0274, the Senate counterpart to this EXTREME abortion bill, has been filed with 10 Senate cosponsors. Identical to the House bill -- expert legal analyses appear at end to refute sponsors' alternative facts -- the bill would:
🔴 NEW - Prohibit and repeal prohibitions on public funding for abortion and state employee coverage for abortion (see legal analyses below).
🔴 Prohibit the State of Rhode Island from banning any "method" of abortion, even PARTIAL BIRTH ABORTION.
🔴 Allow abortions beyond our longstanding "quick child" threshold, potentially allowing abortions all the way up until birth, leaving the determination of fetal viability solely to the discretion of the "attending physician," that is, the abortionist being paid to kill the unborn child... abortionists like Kermit Gosnell.
🔴 Put vulnerable women in grave danger by striking down longstanding informed consent requirements.
🔴 Prohibit state and local agencies from restricting the "manner" in which abortions are provided, potentially putting abortionists beyond the regulatory oversight (health and safety regulations and inspections for example) by the Department of Health and other state agencies.
🔴 The bill amounts to a virtually complete deregulation of the abortion industry in Rhode Island, even as Congress (Senate Judiciary Committee & Select Investigative Panel of the House Energy & Commerce Committee) is recommending criminal investigations into Planned Parenthood for egregious violations of existing laws and regulations.
▶︎ Many of you who have already emailed or called your State Representative about this bill may have received responses from the bill sponsor similar to those published by Warwick Representatives Joseph McNamara, David Bennett, and Evan Shanley in a Legislative Press Release dated February 20.
▶︎ If you haven't yet emailed your State Representative, please click here to act now.
▶︎While Reps. #McNamara, #Bennett, and #Shanley and the other sponsors are certainly within their rights to hold a pro-abortion position and offer extreme abortion legislation, ❌ they are not entitled to spread false information about the bill to their constituents while brazenly accusing RI Right to Life and the RI Catholic Conference of engaging in what they, themselves, are actually engaged.
▶︎In order to dispel any doubts about the veracity of our claims and the falsity of Planned Parenthood's talking points, Fr. Bernard Healey, executive director of the RI Catholic Conference, has solicited two separate expert legal analyses; the first by Paul Benjamin Linton, Esq., a nationally-known pro-life attorney, and the second by Robert M. Duffy, Esq., and Joseph V. Cavanagh, Esq., two prominent Rhode Island attorneys. What we discovered is that the bill is even worse than we have stated!
▶︎If your State Representative has falsely claimed that you have been misinformed, we invite you to reach out to them and share these analyses and your thoughts accordingly. Constituents have a right to truthful and accurate information from their elected officials. You deserve better!
▶︎Lastly, even as we are pleased to inform you that 8 House cosponsors have thus far withdrawn their support for the bill (Reps. Marvin Abney, Dennis Canario, Helder Cunha, Robert Jacquard, Raymond Johnston, Charlene Lima, Michael Morin, Carlos Tobon), it has come to our attention that 6 of the bill cosponsors in the House are graduates of Providence College.
🔴 Incredibly, over half of the PC graduates serving in the House have cosponsored this EXTREME abortion bill. We submitted a paid advertisement to The Cowl, the student-run campus newspaper, to alert the Providence College community about this disgrace and to encourage dialogue. After first accepting the advertisement, The Cowl refused to run it. We encourage Providence College alumni and alumnae to contact these Representatives."
