Hurricane Irma has just strengthened to a catastrophic category 5 hurricane. Irma is massive, and has just begun battering the Caribbean Islands and generating waves as high as 23 feet.
If Irma should hit the U.S. at least as a category 4, it will be the first time this has happened in 102 years (2 CAT 4 hurricanes hitting U.S. in same year).
Irma is currently traveling west-southwest at 13 mph with maximum sustained winds up to 130 mph. and is expected to make U.S. landfall early next week.
There is also another storm forming right behind it.
