Drunk Drivers Kill: 28 Per day/ 1 Every 51 Minutes/ 19 in RI (2015) - Please Take 2 Minutes To Save A Life-
Rhode Island has one of the worst drunk driving ratings in the country: 51st/ 1.5 out of 5 stars. Unacceptable.
Our state needs to improve its all-offender INTERLOCK LAW. Plea agreements or reductions in the original DUI charge does NOT include the requirement of an interlock... IT SHOULD, regardless!
How RI can improve:
Life-saving legislation in our state:
TAKE ACTION!! >>> Rhode Island: Ask your lawmakers to improve our drunk driving law
"Effective June 24, 2016, Rhode Island’s all-offender interlock law went into effect as Judges must order interlocks for first-time offenders who apply for a hardship license following a DUI conviction. Judges must order an interlock for all repeat and first-time offenders with a BAC of .15 or greater after the hardship license concludes. As of August 2016, there were 808 interlocks installed in Rhode Island." (MADD).
TAKE ACTION!! >> Improve the enforcement of Impaired driving laws with Sobriety Checkpoints
"Sobriety checkpoints are a valuable tool for law enforcement to deter drunk and drugged driving. 37 states plus Washington, DC utilize this lifesaving enforcement tool to save lives. In a comprehensive study, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that when well-publicized sobriety checkpoints were run, alcohol-related crashes and fatalities decreased by more than 20%."
