Just got off the phone with ACE MATTRESS RECYCLING located at 14 Clyde Street in West Warwick.
ACE shared that Warwick residents can drop off their used mattresses/boxspring at a cost of $10 for each piece right at their facility.
This business has partnered with the North Smithfield DPW and has provided them with mattress bags for bed bug contamination. North Smithfield residents can purchase the mattress bags for $7.50 each at their DPW and ACE picks up at that DPW for the city who has contracted with them.
ACE also provides resident used mattress pick up service to the city of Cumberland as well for the price of $20 for each piece being picked up.
ACE also shared that in order for them to drive out to provide service to Warwick residents, they would need to get a sufficient amount of requests and then they would designate a pick up day for Warwick.
ACE will not pick up mattresses that have been left outside and exposed to rain or severe weathering. The used mattresses must be in good, recyclable condition.
If you decide to just bring your used mattress to their facility in West Warwick, it would be best that you already have the mattresses bagged because often times the used mattresses are contaminated with bed bugs and there is an added cost for the recycling service for bed bug contamination. Depending on the severity of the bed bug contamination, worst case increased cost scenarios have been high as $80.
ACE does the bed bug testing right there at their facility, so if you are not able to bag your used mattress, ACE will test for contamination and then let you know what the added cost will be.
You also do not want to attempt to just drop off your used mattress when their facility is closed because the ACE property is monitored by CCV and any attempt to dump-and-go will not ultimately be successful.
So for just $20 (2 pieces) and bed bug free, you only have to drive over to the next town to West Warwick and recycle your mattress/boxspring!! Instead of casing out some vacant lot or random area anywhere in our beautiful city, please... do the right thing instead! Warwick is not a random dumping site! Would you want someone dumping right in your own backyard?
Maybe in the future, ACE could also partner with our Warwick DPW and stock them with the used mattress bags for Warwick residents to purchase?
Another idea would be for the city of Warwick to provide a "free skate" or a "free swim" voucher to be used at either McDermott Pool or at the Thayer/Warburton Arenas for each used mattress bag purchased at the Warwick DPW. Warwick residents could fill out the voucher form and then return it with their receipt from ACE. This would incentivize residents to buy the bags, recycle their mattress at ACE, then bring the ACE receipt back to the Warwick DPW along with the voucher form to be rewarded with "free skate" or "free swim" passes.
As Warwick city’s Division of Sanitation stopped collecting mattresses curbside and stopped accepting used mattresses for disposal at the DPW, the least the city could do is replace this city service elimination with a public incentive to recycle.
Warwick residents are the ones who would be taking the time out of their busy schedules to responsibly recycle their used mattress(s). This includes travel (fuel) and added costs per item(s) recycled. The least the city of Warwick could do is reward the residents with the opportunity to freely enjoy the city's recreation facilities as a courtesy for imposing this inconvenience on its residents.
Warwick? What do you think? Your feedback is always appreciated! Thank You.
