Dear Members of our House Labor Committee,
Thank you to the 3-5 of you that sat through the House Labor Committee hearings on Thursday, March 31st.
Here are the data references used for my support of H7408:
When Arizona cracked down on their illegal immigration problem, mandated E-verify, and stopped the illegal immigrant benefit hand outs, their immigration flow started to reverse. Wages increased (15% for Arizona farmworkers and 10% for construction workers) and more U.S. unemployed native workers and legal Hispanic immigrants found jobs while taxpayer spending on illegals dropped significantly.
This is beyond being "passionate" about something, this is about illegal immigration deterrence, reducing taxpayer financial burden, increasing wages and job placement for native born citizens and legal immigrants, safety, and above all... enforcing our laws. To say wait until we get another President (get it right this time people) for things to change along the border, is an egregious statement and puts greater discontent and lack of trust in our State's leadership with this type of mentality at the helm.
"HOPE"fully, you will all read the information included here and the next time around, Rhode Island will be added to the list of states that mandates E-Verify to be used by all or nearly all employers. We shouldn't need Executive Orders to get this accomplished.
