Back in 2012, the home and business owners in Central Coventry stood up and gave a loud, collective "NO" to a 65% tax hike to pay for contracts, budgets and equipment purchases that nearly doubled the fire tax rate in just six years. This massive tax hike was the final straw for the taxpayers:
"With no limits on tax hikes or debt, both ballooned. Ignoring apparent conflicts of interest, the insider board approved contracts, budgets and equipment purchases that nearly doubled the fire tax rate in just six years.
A 2012 request for a 65 percent tax hike was the final straw.
In the months that followed, as the district endured management by the courts, then the state, and finally entered bankruptcy, it became apparent that a long-term solution must include greater protections for taxpayers. Statutory limits on city and town spending exist, but they do not extend to fire districts."
The law firm that represented this financially mismanaged fire district was non other than my opponent's, ( #Shanley ) family law firm , Gursky/Wiens Attorneys at Law. A Republican State Representative, Patricia Morgan, had the backs of the taxpayers that couldn't take it anymore.
The same exact municipal financial mismanagement is happening right here in the city of Warwick. Our ever increasing municipal tax dollars are being squandered away without any responsible budgeting oversight and accountability.
This is just one prime example:
More than half of our Warwick City Council didn't even read the last round of the increasingly lucrative municipal union contracts before voting on them. Warwick City leadership has lost sight of who they work for. These very same incompetent Warwick politicians financially back my opponent and I'm not surprised in the least.
As I continue to speak out against the injustice, unfairness, and corruption that is plaguing our community as I proudly run for political office, I continue to receive the harassment from the guilty and greedy, those who are only concerned about one thing and one thing only: protecting their fraudulent self interests. The labor attorney puppet they have hand selected to make sure those self interests are protected is my opponent.
There is a very clear, distinguishing choice the voters in District 24 will advocate for this coming election day. You will either be voting for the status quo that is destroying our state, or you will be voting for honest, tough, and non intimidated representation that is willing to fight against the unethical tax extortion that is driving too many families and businesses out of Rhode Island.
I'm on the side of the seniors who rely on their social security check (that came with a 0% COLA this year), who are struggling to pay their bills.
I'm on the side of the small business owner who is working OT with less pay to make ends meet because he/she had to layoff a few employees to keep up with the tax increases.
I'm on the side of young families and seniors who are struggling to pay their medical bills and increasing healthcare costs while others pay nothing. This is blatantly wrong and unfair and it needs to stop.
The only thing being "earned" by my opponent is a campaign slush fund with deposits made by the same political hacks that are financially destroying our city and our state. The only way these individuals can be stopped is by the voters saying "NO".
We can change things for the better if we stay focused on the areas we have the greatest ability to affect change in, and that's right here in our own communities and districts. Rhode Island has been plagued for too long but the "good ol' boy" networks and the "who I know" politicians. I refuse to believe this is "just how it is". No, it's what we allow.
The choice is crystal clear this Nov 8th for District 24 in Warwick. I can't imagine the voters wanting more increased taxation and one-sided representation by another union attorney puppet for the labor bosses.
We all deserve better and that's what I will deliver. My number one priority will be holding the line on increased taxation, finding every which way to cut taxes, demanding fiscal accountability, and cracking down on waste and fraud. My opponent would be doing just the opposite..don't allow it to happen.
I am your independent voice. No "puppet" strings attached.
